Simply artichokes
One of my favorites - Artichokes!
Rinse them under running water, cut off about half an inch of the pointed tops (apply lemon juice to prevent it from browning)
Remove the lowest leaves near the stem
Cut them in half and use a spoon to remove the 'choke' - the fuzzy hairs in the center. (apply lemon juice to prevent it from browning)
Put them into the steam oven, and steam for about 35 to 60 minutes. (depending on the size)
.
When it's done ...
.
Drizzle generously with olive oil
Sprinkle Himalyan salt
Sear the artichokes with a blow torch
Squeeze some lemon juice on top
.
Dip the bottom part of the petals* into olive oil (infused with homegrown herbs, + salt, and pepper)
*(Pull through the front teeth to eat the soft part of the petals; discard the remaining. Remove the 'choke' when you get to the bottom and enjoy the best part - the heart of the artichokes.)
Don’t have a blow torch?
Another way is to finish eating the petals, then…
when it comes to the best part of the artichoke - the heart
brush lots of extra virgin avocado oil
(why avocado oil? because it has a high smoke point of 400F + and has a mild nutty and buttery flavor)
add garlic powder, and salt
put it into the oven
bake until it turns into golden color
What's your favorite way of cooking artichokes?
